Spartcist uprising
The Spartacists attempted to overthrow Ebert and the Weimar government to make a communist state in Berlin. Ebert and Noske used the regular army and Freikorps to curhs the rebellion. Liebkneht and Luxemburg were captured and killed, and the new government moved to Weimar. -

Kapp Putsch
Angered by the government's announcement to reduce the size of the army and disband the Freikorps, EhrHardt and Kapp successfully captured Berlin. THey were supported by the regular army. Therefore, the workers of Berlin went on strike to drice Kapp out. -
Rentenmark
Stresemann introduced a new temporary currency named the Rentenmark. This was based on property prices rather than gold reserves and was issued in limited amounts. The following year, the Rentenmark was converted in the Reichsmark, which was backed by gold reserves. -

Locarno Treaty
Germany, Britain, France, Italy and Belgium sign the Locarno treaty in London, agreeing to keep existing borders between Germany, Belgium and France.

germany joins League of Nations
Germany was given a seat on the Council of the League of Nations. Stresemann used this to bring about the Young Plan. However, some people did not like this because the League of Nations was thought of as the guardian for the Treaty of Versailles -
Kellogg-Briand pact
Germany and 64 other nations signed the Kelogg-Briand pact, saying they would solve disputes peacefully and only use their armies in self-defense -
Young Plan
Owen Young, an American Banker, decided:
-the reparations figure would be reduced by 3/4 to£1850 million
-Germany was given 59 years to pay off reparations
It was criticised by right-wing politicians, eg Hitler, who said Germany should not pay any more reparations at all -

The American economy collapsed. America recalled the loans made under the Dawes plan. Exports fell, unemployment rose. -
Bruning becomes chancellor
Bruning became chancellor, but he did not have a majority so relied on Hindenburg and article 48, 'death of Weimar'. Reduced government spending, 'hunger chancellor'. -

6 million people were unemployed, meaning 4/10s of all workers. This led to a rise in support foextreme partes, especially the KPD, communist party
