Darwin was born in Shrewsbury, England. Charles was the second youngest of his five total siblings. -
Attended College at Edinburgh University
Darwin attended Edinburgh University to study medicine. He ended up leaving the University early in April of 1827. -
Attended College At Christ’s College, Cambridge
Darwin got his Bachelor of Arts degree when he graduated. -
HMS Beagle Voyage
Darwin was apart of the HMS Beagle Voyage. Over the course of the trip he collected various specimens. Darwin also made some of his most famous discoveries when he traveled to the Galápagos Islands during this voyage. This includes his work with Galapagos Finches, with which he solidified his understanding on natural selection. -
Theory of Evolution
Darwin published a book that recorded and explained his findings from the voyage. The book was titled “On the Origins of Species by Means of Natural Selection” and it highlighted his discoveries from the Galápagos Islands where he studied how natural selection affected the finches. Death
Charles Darwin died at the age of 73. Darwin passed away in his country home due to heart failure. It has been reported that his last words were to his wife in which he stated “I am not the least afraid to die.”
