The Assassination of Franz Ferdinand
On June 28th, 1914, Franz Ferdinand was shot and killed. In turn, the Austrian Hungary government declared war upon Serbia believing they were behind it. As a result, much larger nations such as France and Russia whom were Serbia's ally, went to war with Germany, who was an ally of the Austrian Hungary government. -
Germany Invades Belgium
On Augest 3rd 1914, Germany invades the neutral country of Belgium in attempts to successfully invade France. In result, this is the tipping point that allows Britain to enter the war against the Germans. -
The sinking of the RMS Lusitania
On May 7th 1915, The Lusitania was sunk by a German submarine. Additionally, there was many American citizens on the ship. In result, this left an extremely negative view of the American population upon the Germans place in the war. -
Woodrow Wilson is Reelected
On November 7th 1916, Woodrow Wilson was reelected as president of the United States. This would impact World War 1 because Wilson was in support of being involved with the war. -
Zimmerman Telegram
On January 1917, the Zimmerman Telegram was sent to Mexico as a call to join the war. Foreign minister Arthur Zimmerman sent this telegram to an ambassador in Mexico, stating that if America were to join the war, Mexico could ally with Germany and reclaim Texas. However, this telegram was intercepted, and once this was revealed, America gained reasons to fight. -
Russia Backs out of the War
On March 3rd, 1918, the treaty of Brest-Litovsk was signed, taking Russia out of the war. As a result, Germany had one less front to fight on, and this would kick start the Russian Revolution -
Armistice Day
On November 11th, 1918, Armistice Day marks the end of World War 1, with the victory of the Allies and defeat of Germany. After the final armistice, Germany was forced to pay for escalating this war into a global scale.
