Tim Berners-Lee created the first website. Throughout most of the 90’s all websites were hand written in HTML. -
Macromedia Dreamweaver developed
Dreamweaver software was created made webpage design accessible to people who were not experts in HTML. Used the beginnings of what would be known as WYSIWYG design. -

Wordpress is launched as a blogging tool but also eventually becomes a webpage creation tool. It contains a rich text editor, and supports plugins & widgets. -

Weebly is launched
This online website creator features a WYSIWYG editing interface which allows dragging and dropping of content directly to the page, with no software necessary. -
Google Sites launched
Launched Google Sites as part of the Google Apps package. It has a rich text editor & widgets available through the use of Google Gadgets. Google Sites goal was to allow groups of people to be able to create a collaborative site and share files.
