Slaves Arrive in America
In 1619, the very first slaves arrived in Jamestown. -
First Fugitive Slave Act
The first Fugitive Slave Act was passed. This act rquires all escaped slaves to be returned to itheir owners. -
Slave Trade Abolished
In 1807, the Slave Trade was abolished, meaning no mare slaves would come to America. -
MIssouri Compromise
This compromise was created by Henry Clay. 2 territories wanted to enter statehood, and so to keep the balance, one state entered as free, and the other entered as slave. -
Wilmot Proviso Created
The Wlmot Proviso was a law desogned to eliminate slavery in land acquired because of the Mexican War. This law was never passed, since it was blocked by the Senate. -
1850 Compromise
Senator Henry Clay introduced a series of resolutions to end conflict between North and South. Slaves in Washington D.C. were abolished, and the Fugitive Slave Act was amended. -
Uncle Tom's Cabin
In 1852, Uncle Tonm's cabin was published by Harriet Beecher Stowe. -

Bleeding Kansas
Bleeding Kansas was a series of violent political confrontations in the US involving antislavery Free-Staters and pro-slavery Border-Ruffians. This conflict ended in 1861. -
Kansas-Nebraska Act
This act allowed Kansas and Nebraska to decide whether or not they wanted slavery. -
Dred Scott vs Sanford
This case decided that African Americans were not American citizens, and could not sue the federal court. I also decided that congress didn't have enough power to ban slavery. -
Harper's Ferry
In 1859, John Brown and his group of men led an attack on Harper's Ferry. John Brown was captured and hanged for his crimes.
