    One thing that caused the Colony to not be as profitable as possible was the constant threat of mosquitos. These mosquitos carried disease and other insects bagan to infect the food. Within 1 year over 100 colonists were dead. This halted the success of Jamestown because with less colonists, less money was made.

    By 1617, Jamestown had been repeatedly re-supplied with food and men—and yet it still hovered on the edge of starvation. They gained over two hundred more men and shad food re-supplied and were still short, the only thing keeping Jamestown afloat was the income from tobacco.
