The Pentagon Papers
A pentagon employee releases records to the New York Times discussing Nixon's failed policies that ultimately admit to America losing the war in Vietnam and a plethora of misleading information given to the American public regarding the war. -
Plumbers
"The Plumbers" refers to a covert special investigation unit of the White House that was formed to prevent the leaking of information to the American Public. The Plumbers' first task was the burglary of the office of Daniel Ellsberg's Los Angeles psychiatrist, Lewis J. Fielding, in an effort to uncover evidence to discredit Ellsberg, who had leaked the Pentagon Papers. -
Nixon's Enemies List
Around the time of the 1972 elections, Nixon realizes how enraged the American public is becoming over his not keeping his promise of ending the war in Vietnam. Nixon decides to eliminate anyone who might stand in his way of remaining President. -
CREEP
The Republican Committee to Re-Elect the President (CREEP), virtually a group of ex-plumbers, is sent to make sure other candidates campaigning for the presidency can not become viable candidates. its re-election activities, Aside from getting Nixon re-elected CREEP employed money laundering and slush funds and was directly and actively involved in the Watergate scandal -
The Watergate Burglaries
CREEP sends five men to break into and place electronic "bugs" in the Democratic party's headquarters at the Watergate Complex in Washington DC. Upon word of the break-in, the White House calls it a "third rate burglary attempt. -
Nixon Re-Elected
Nixon is relected President of the United States and will serve a second term. -
The Cover-Up
Bob Woodward and Carl Bernstein begin investigating the Watergate Scandal and see that money belonging to CREEP is used to pay anyone involved in their covert operations. This became known as the cover-up. Mark Felt, associate director of the FBI was a primary cource of information linking the men to the Nixon Adminisration. -
Watergate Hearings
The Senate Watergate Committee begins its nationally televised hearings. Under the new Attorney General, Elliot Richardson, Archibald Cox is appointed the independent prosecutor. -
Executive Privilege
President Nixon uses his executive privilege and refuses to turn over recordings and tapes used in the Oval Office from 1971 to present. -
Subpoenaed Tapes
A significant gap is found in one of the recorded tapes. Forensic analysis determined that the tape had been erased in several segments, not in one segment like it was orginally reported. -
Nixon Resigns
President Nixon becomes the first US president to resign. President Ford becomes new President, Nixon will later be pardoned for all the charges related to the WaterGate scandal.
