Israel starts creating a National Water Carrier that is supposed to transfer water to the Negev Desert from the north of the Sea of Galilee and out the Jordan basin for irrigation. Syria's army was called up to patrol the national borders, and Israel's actions were frowned upon by the rest of the world. As a result, Israel was forced to change the location where they were getting their water supply.

Iraq accuses Syria of reducing the flow of the Euphrates River. Iraq threatens to destroy the al-Thawra Dam in Syria to open the flow. In a show of force, Iraq moves military troops to the border between the two countries.

Turkey finshed construction of the Ataturk Dam. During the final month of construction, the flow of the Euphrates River was interrupted for a month. Turkey also threatened to limit the water of which flows to Syria to make Syria stop supporting Kurdish recels, Syria and Iraq believe the dam is a weapon of war.

Saddam Hussein was a Sunn Muslim and his governmnet was made up of Sunni Muslims. Shiite and Sunni Muslims have been fighting for a thousand years. Sddam Hussein poisoned and drained the water supply of Southern Shiite Muslims who opposed his governmnet.

Tribal fighting in Pakistan near the Afghanistan border was the result of a water dispute. Irrigation wtaer was cut off by the Mangal tribe that supplied water to the Tori tribe. Fighting took place for more than two weeks. More than 100 people were killed.
