Queen Anne's War
The Queen Anne's War was the second of the French and Indian wars. The British and the French were both fighting over control of border settlements in both England and the Americas. The French were successful in destroying Deerfield, Massachusetts. Colonies in the south were affected economically by this war. -
Treaty of Utrecht
This was a peace treaty that was created between France and Great Britain in order to end Queen Anne's War. France ceded the territories that they had captured (including the Hudson Bay in the Americas). -
Father Rale's War
This war was a series of battles between the New England colonies and the Wabanaki Confederacy who were allied with France. The war was fought over land and the division between New England and Acadia. One of the results of this war is that the colonists were forced to acknowledge that the Native Americans had the right to possess land in New England. -
King George's War
This was also a war fought between France and Great Britain over control of some of the American colonies. The border in question was again the border between New England and Acadia. In 1748, the two powers signed another peace treaty that mutually restored territory to the original owners but it did not address colonial questions on the matter and tension began to build between the colonists and the mother country. -
Seven Years War
Part of the war on American soil that was fought between France and Great Britain. Britain won and received all of the land east of the Mississippi. Britain also passed laws preventing the colonies from taking the natives land. This spurred further tension. -
American Revolution
The colonies rebelled against their home country of Great Britain and wanted to establish themselves as an independent nation. France ended up assisting the colonists and the colonists were able to prevail and become their own nation. -
Northwest Indian War
This was a war between the American colonies and the Native American tribes over control of the Northwest Territory. The American forces were mostly untrained volunteers and they suffered many casualties. Eventually they prevailed and the Native Americans ceded the territory to the Americans. Afterwards the USA citizens settled the Northwest territory. -
War of 1812
Great Britain attempted to restrict the US trade with other countries. The nation's capital was captured by the British and Washington B.C was burned to the ground. America was able to prevail yet again and many refer to this war as the "second war of independence."
