    The first Peace Society in the United States. Founded by David Low Dodge after the war of1812. Held weekly meetings and made literature that described horrors of war based on christian grounds. Eventually merges with other peace societies to create the American peace society.

    Pacifists start to speak up after War of 1812. William Ladd leads American Peace Society and even though his attempts at peace are extinguished by the time the Civil War starts, he planted seeds for organizations in the 1900's like the Leugue of Nations and th United Nations.
  • American Peace Society

    A pacifist group founded by William Ladd in New York City. The society organized peace conferences and regulary published a newspaper called "The Advocate of Peace".
  • Benjamin Franklin Trueblood

    Benjamin Franklin Trueblood
    A Quaker who wrote "The Federation of the World" in 1899 which called for the establishment of international state to bring about lasting peace in throughout the world. He was also the mosst famous leader of the American Peace Society.
  • William Ladd

    William Ladd
    One of the first American anti-war activists, and first president of the American Peace Society. He also proposed a plan for a World Congress and Court of Nations (similar to United Nations).
