Battle of Tippecanoe
Governor William Henry Harrison and the Native Americans went to war because Americans were getting the native's lands. They ended up battling and American forces burned their village. Tecumseh the native chief went back to his village and saw it in ashes. this angered the natives and decided to join forces with Great Britain going against the US. Tecumseh rallied up other native Americans to come together to defeat the US from taking more land. -
War Hawks
The War Hawks were a group of young politicians who were instigating war against Britain by claiming that armed intervention was necessary to preserve American honesty and defend the country's frontiers. This was an important part of dragging the United States and Britain into war. -
War of 1812
Since the British were imprisoning and also obstructing US trade while supporting the natives to raid the US border, while also having War Hawks persuading them, the United States finally declared war on Britain. The war ended in a draw which led to the creation of the Treaty of Ghent. -
Battle of Thames
In the battle of Thames, American forces were able to break the British lines which gave them an advantage. Many still tried fighting back but some surrendered and fled the scene. This had left some natives still fighting for the disrespect America has done to them. As they were fighting in a swamp much blood was shed. This caused Tecumseh to die in war and the rest of the natives fled when hearing this. -
Hartford Convention
During the War of 1812 New England Federalists conducted a series of meetings to discuss their complaints against the federal government. It was meant to help the economic suffering that the New England states were going through because of the war. It led to division and diminishing the power of the Federalist Party in American politics because they were looked at as disloyal. -
Treaty of Ghent
The Treaty of Ghent ended the War of 1812 and Imposed that all conquered territory had to be returned and planned to settle the boundary of the US and Canada. The treaty restored peace and established the foundation for improved ties with the US and Britain because it cost more than it was worth. -
Battle of New Orleans
This battle took place after the Treaty of Ghent. The British wanted to capture New Orleans and the Mississippi River but did not succeed. The Americans were able to win, and Andrew Jackson led them, making him a national hero.
