In 1959, Walt Disney Productions began looking for land to house a second theme park and resort to supplement Disneyland in Anaheim, California, which had opened in 1955.

Walt passes away

Dec 15, 1966

Walt Disney died on December 15, 1966, before construction began. Without Disney spearheading the construction, the company created a resort similar to Disneyland, abandoning experimental concepts for a planned community.
