  • Quine published "From a Logical Point of View" pt 1

He denied the importance and existence of the analytic-synthetic distinction. Analytic statements are true by the meaning of their words. Synthetic statements are true or false by virtue of facts about the world. He argued that truth by definition is not enough and that there is no distinction between universally known collateral information and conceptual or analytic truths. He made all of logic & math capable of alteration from experience.

  • Quine published "From a Logical Point of View" pt 2

Quine stated that whole theories can be verified or falsified, however, individual statements can not. Statements only have meaning in the context of a whole language. SUBJECTIVE! There are no single whole truths.

This video explains Quine's view on analyticity and how it is circular and can not be used as a basis for the validity of statements.

  • Published "Word and Object"

Quine influenced language. He talks about indeterminacy of translation, which means that there are numerous translations that are possible from one language into another language. This theory is a specific example of a more broad/general concept of Quine's known as ontological relativity. This concludes that for every scientific theory, there are a plethora of alternatives that can satisfy all of the evidence just as well, so one theory is no truer than another about the world.
