    The 15th amendment was passed by Congress on February 26, 1869 and was ratified on February 3, 1870. This amendment granted African American men the right to vote.
  • Alice Paul and the Hunger Strike

    Alice Paul and the Hunger Strike
    Women were harassed and beaten, and were repeatedly arrested and jailed on charges of “obstructing traffic.”In October 1917, Alice Paul and others went on a hunger strike in protest. In response, the prison guards restrained and force-fed her through a tube. In November 1917, the superintendent ordered over forty guards to attack the Silent Sentinels. Battered, choked, and beaten, some to unconsciousness.

    Freedom Summer, or the Mississippi Summer Project, was a 1964 voter registration drive aimed at increasing the number of registered Black voters in Mississippi. Over 700 mostly white volunteers joined African Americans in Mississippi to fight against voter intimidation and discrimination at the polls.
