Lenin's birth
Vladimir Ilich Ulyanov was born on April 22, 1870, in Simbirsk, Russia. Which was later named Ulyanovsk, after him. However, Vladimir also renamed himself to Vladimir Lenin. He had six siblings growing up, but the most important sibling in his life was his older brother Aleksandr, and he really looked up to him. Source:(Biography.com) -
The First Telephone
In 1874, Alexander Graham Bell came up with the idea of a telephone. With the help of Thomas A. Watson, he eventually patented the phone a couple years later. Soon after that, he made the first call to Watson on March 10, 1876, and the first working telephone was made. First Practical Light Bulb
Prior to Thomas Edison's research in 1879, the light bulb was still impractical for everyday life. In 1878, he started to actually research and experiment with the bulb. On November 4, 1879, he finally came up with a practical light bulb, with carbonized bamboo filament. He found that it could last up to 1200 hours. The Execution of Aleksandr Ulyanov
On May 20. 1887, Vladimir Lenin's brother, Aleksandr, was executed. He was plotting to assassinate the Tsar, or king, at the time with a group of rebels. Unfortunately, he was caught and put to death. Aleksandr's death hit Lenin hard. As said previously, Lenin looked up to his brother, and when he died, it sparked an idea inside him. His death is what got Lenin into the idea communism. Lenin always had a hated the serfdom, and that's why he thought of communism, where everyone's equal. (Archer) -
Vladimir Lenin is exiled
After the execution of his brother, Lenin decided to join the revolution against Tsar Alexander II. He practiced law, and moved to St. Petersburg, named Petrograd at the time. He eventually joined The Union for the Struggle of the Working Class. Unfortunately for him, the members were arrested in 1895, and Lenin was exiled a year later. In 1900, after his exile was ended, he moved to western Europe to start Revolutionary activities again. (Louis Fischer) -
Galveston Hurricane
On September 9, 1900, a devastating hurricane ripped through Galveston, Texas. The unnamed hurricane wreaked havoc on Galveston, killing more than six thousand people. This powerful hurricane was a Category 4, and it is said to be one of the worst weather-related disasters in the US. After it struck, a seawall was formed around Galveston to prevent another devastating disaster, and there hasn't yet been a worse event in Galveston. Source:(History.com) -
Gathering of second Congress of Russian Social Democrats
This gathering lasted several days, and was mainly to split into two groups. The side with Lenin called for violent ways ofdoing things. This formed the center of the Communist Party, and was called the Bosheviks. It also made up the majority. The other side was called the Mensheviks, who became socialists dedicated to peaceful change. These people were the minority of the gathering, however. Eventually, they started having conflicts. Revolution of 1905
At around 1905, Russia had a sudden increase in population, which decreased food supply. This would have already been bad enough had Russia not been at war, so poverty was at a high. Workers started to protest the monarchy because of this, and it lead to the Bloody Sunday Massacre of 1905. While the workers were protesting, they were shot down, which in turn caused the peaceful protesting and unrest with the nation to go to a revolution. Source:(Levine) -
The beginning of Cubism
Cubism was an artistic movement mainly in the 20th century which depicted humans as geometric shapes. The movement was created by Pablo Picasso and Georges Braques. Picasso created his first cubism painting, "Demoiselles D'Avignon", in 1907, two years after meeting Braques. Although the first painting of its kind was made in 1907, other only started joining the movement in 1910, and it finally started to kick off. Source:(History.com) -
WW1 and Lenin's Second Exile
During World War 1, Lenin was living in Switzerland after being exiled for a second time. While he was there, he kept working on Revolutionary activities. Vladimir Lenin opposed the war, but, he unfortunately lost his battle for opposition, and Russia still fought. The Theory of Relativity
Although the exact date is not known, Albert Einstein published the Theory of Relativity Somewhere in 1915. This discovery was a huge event for scientists, because it was the first theory on gravity since Isaac Newton's discovery. So it was a big success for science as a whole. Source:(History.com) -
Russian Civil War
The Russian Civil War started on November 7, 1917, and was fought between three major parties. The first was the Red Army, which consisted of Lenin and the Bolsheviks. The second was the White Army, which were basically people supporting monarchism and the like. The final and least prominent was the small Green Army, which opposed both sides. The Traffic Light
After the creation of the automobile, roads were chaotic, because there was next to no direction. So, once the traffic light came about, it was quickly put everywhere. However, no one person can take the credit for the invention of traffic signals and lights, and it is credited to a series of people who slowly developed it. End of the Russian Civil War
After the Russian Civil War ended on October 25, 1922, Russia was in shambles. Mainly the economy was suffering from the war. In order to ease this, Lenin proposed the New Economic Policy, which did help, but it did not fix the problem completely. Vladimir Lenin creates the USSR
Shortly after the end of the Civil War, the USSR, the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics, was officially created. By this point, Lenin's health started to decline, and he has had several strokes. Surprisingly, Lenin had started to feel regret over the supreme dictatorial power of Russia, and also disliked the rising power of Joseph Stalin, who later went from the secretary of the Communist Party to the leader. Lenin's Death
