Creation of the Longship
(This started in 5500 B.C.) The Vikings were looking for a new way to move through the icy conditions of the seas in the north. The Longship was being peiced together over a long period of time. The longship was mostly made in nordic countries (Scandinavian countries). -

Creation of the Viking Shield
The Viking shields were finished being created in 1200. The Vikings needed some extra defense while they were fighting. They found out this new way of defense which quickly became the main source of defense against enemies. The shield was made in Scandinavia which was later made into a kite shield which extended the bottom of the shield to cover the upper part of the vikings legs. -

Creation of the Danish Axe
The Danish Axe or Battle Axe started being created in 1100 A.D. and finished around 1200 A.D. The battle axe was favored by the vikings for its light weight and thin design. The battle axe was first used by mostly elite warriors but later on was a very common weapon of the vikings. The battle axe was made for a faster and new way to fight. -

The Black Death
The Black Death was a plague that started in 1348 and ended in 1350. The Black Death was a plague that started from fleas jumping off black rats onto Scandinavians. The fleas then bit them and transferred their disease and so forth. The Scandinavians didn't know why this was happening, they thought it was a curse from the Gods. -

The Kalmar Union
The Kalmar Union was Scandinavia before it was called Scandinavia. The Kalmar Union was a practice run because nobody was willing to give up their indepenence or sovereignty. The Kalmar Union was a practice to see if they could be united under 1 monarch (king or queen) but that ended in 1523 when the Swedes rebelled against the Danes. -
The Great Northern War
The Great Northern War was a war between Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Russia, and Poland. This war ended in 1721 with the Treaty of Nystad. Russia, Denmark, and Norway were united by a person named Johann Patkul. Later on Russia and Poland were united. The reason this war started was a dispute in poland. -
The Winter War
The Winter War ended on March 13th, 1940. The Soviet Union (Russia) attacked Finland. This war was started over a Soviet offense on Finland. Over 100,000 men were deployed combine. -
Finding of Newfoundland
The Scandinavian viking Leif Eriksson, heard of a story about land west of Greenland. He gathered up a group of 35 men and was off. They made it to Newfoundland after going through places such as Helluland and Markland. Leif had to be the first one to discover this so thats why it was found. -
Erik The Red's Trick
Sometime between 980-1000 Erik The Red was exiled from Iceland after a murder was commited. The trick Erik The Red did was name Greenland, Greenland, so he could trick people to leave Iceland and go to Greenland. Many people fell for his trick so Erik got to go back to Iceland. -
Vikings Raiding England
The Vikings raided England, they weren't afraid to kill anybody to get what they were after. They killed monks and took their valuables. They were mainly after Saint Cuthbert's relics. These raids never stopped until 840. This then marked the beginning of the "Viking age of Invasion."
