With the help of Ho Chi Minh's leadership, Viet Mah, a communist anti-colonial group took control of Northern Vietnam -
Start of Communist North vs. Fench and Democratic South
An 8 year war began in 1946 with the Viet Minh and the anti-commmunists. -
War Ends. Country Divided.
After bloody battles and casualties on both sides, the war ends with the country the same as before; The North still belongs to the communists and the French are still in the south. -
South Vietnam Own Country.
The French give up South Vietnam and it becomes a Democratic nation. -
In Comes America...
The US sends advisors to North Vietnam to deal with the Viet Cong, an armed campaign against anti-communists in the north. -
Troops Sent
American troops were sent to keep Viet Cong from killing the South Vietnamese. -
Tides are Changing
When Americans thought they had won, the losing Viet Cong began its Tet Offence in which they went around killing innocent people for no reason, but to hurt morals. -
Back in America...
The Americans were not happy to see themselves in a war when they had not officially declared war. They began to protest, especially college students. -
Paris Accords
The Paris Accords were a peace agreement between North Vietnam and South Vietnam. The North Vietnamese forces were aloud to remain in the areas they already controled. -
U.S. Withdrawls
The U.S. leaves Vietnam with it's tail between its legs. -
In Comes The North
Just two years after the US pulled out, North Vietnam takes over South Vietnam. -
Socialist Republic of Vietnam
The once two countries of Vietnam joined together as one. -
Invading Cambodia
In 1978 Vietnam invaded Cambodia. -
War With China
A bloody war with China began over borders. -
Vietnam Staying Strong
After many wars, deaths,and pain the now ciommunisat nation if Vietnam has still survived. Although they have many conflicts with economy and resources, they have recovered from extensive bombing and widespread hurt.
