    The Domino theory was coined by president Eisenhower and it was a cold war policy that suggested that a communist government in one nation would quickly lead to communist takeovers in other states, falling like a row of dominoes.
  • Assassination Diem

    Assassination Diem
    Diem's tactics against the Viet Cong insurgency deepened his government's unpopularity, and his brutal treatment of the opposition regime alienated the south Vietnamese populace. Diem and his brother were captured and killed by a group of soldiers.

    LBJ ordered 1st troops to Vietnam
    In 1964, two US destroyers stationed in the Gulf of Tonkin in Vietnam radioed that they had been fired at by Vietnamese forces, in response to this, President Johnson requested permission to increase the US military presence in Indochina.

    The offensive was a coordinated series of North Vietnamese attacks on more than 100 cities and outposts in South Vietnam. The offensive was an attempt to foment rebellion among the South Vietnamese population and encourage the United States to scale back its involvement in the Vietnam War.

    The My Lai Massacre was an incident that occurred when American soldiers killed more than 500 unarmed South Vietnamese citizens in the village of My Lai. It occurred when Charlie Company was ordered to enter the village for a search and destroy mission.

    Vietnamization was an American strategic policy pertaining to Vietnam. It was developed and implemented by United States president Richard Nixon. Its aim was to facilitate the self-sufficiency of South Vietnamese troops and allow the gradual withdrawal of United States troops from South Vietnam.

    Nixon sends troops into Cambodia
    Nixon launched raids against North Vietnam, Cambodia, and Laos to disrupt supply lines, Nixon wanted to secure peace by training the South Vietnamese to fight the communist after US troops left completely.

    Kent state shooting
    Member of the National Guard fired into the crowd of Kent State University killing four and wounding nine students.
  • Hard Hat Riot

    Hard Hat Riot
    In response to flag desecration within the anti-war movement and perceived rejection of returning veterans, a disproportionate majority of whom were blue-collar, blue-collar whites came to oppose the anti-war demonstrators, who tended to be college-educated, a group which was disproportionately non-veterans.

  • Saigon Falls

    The south Vietnamese capital of Saigon fell to the North Vietnamese army, mostly ending the Vietnam war, lead to the reunification of the country under the communist government of the North.
