WWII is close to an end when Nazi Germany surrenders it's armed forces to the Soviet Union. Thus the Allied forces claim victory and celebrate the end of the second world war. -
Potsdam Conference
The Potsdam Conference is held, deciding that Germany and Austria are to be divided into four zones. It was also agreed that the German capital Berlin would be divided into four zones. -

The Formation of West Germany
The French, UK and USA merge their sanctions of Germany to form West Germany after Russia refused to end their occupation of Germany. -
Berlin Blockade
As a response to France, UK and USA creating West Germany. Russia cut off all roads and flow of resources into Berlin, starving the people who lived there. The Western Allies airlifted supplies and food into blockaided Berlin in what became known as the Berlin Airlift. -
NATO is Formed
The North Atlantic Treaty Organisation formed between Belgium, Canada, Denmark, France, Iceland, Italy, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, the United Kingdom, and the United States as a way to defend against any attacks. -
Russia Ends The Berlin Blockade
The Russian's find themselves fighting a lost cause and decide to end their blockade on Berlin. Stalin realises that he cannot win against the Allied efforts. -

The Warsaw Pact was formed with member states East Germany, Czechoslovakia, Poland, Hungary, Romania, Albania, Bulgaria, and the Soviet Union in response to NATO. -

USSR Sputnik II launched a dog into space, proving that man could survive in space. Thus an inexaustable race began between Soviet Russia and the USA to land the first man on the moon. -

A force of Cuban exiles, trained by the CIA and aided by the US government attempted to invade Cuba in order to overthrow the Communist government. Unfortunately, the outcome was a disaster for the US. -

The Berlin Wall was built and the borders between East and West Germany were sealed. -
Cuban Missile Crisis
A US spy plane reported the sighting of spotting Soviet Nuclear missle construction in Cuba. President Kennedy set up a naval blockade and demanded the removal of the missiles. The turnout was peaceful and Russia agreed to remove their weapons, while the US agreed not to invade Cuba. -
JFK Assassination
President John F. Kennedy was assissnated during a visit to Dallas, Texas. The man found guilty for pulling the trigger was Lee Harvery Oswald, but speculation still persists as to whether Communist spies were involved. -
