  • The domino theory

    The domino theory is the idea that if one place becomes communistic than, subsequently, other countries around it will become communistic as well. This was a very popular belief and fueled a lot of the actions made during the cold war. This ideology was a big factor in Americas decision to get involved with Vietnam.
  • The Gulf of Tonkin Incident

    Two United States destroyers stationed in the Gulf of Tonkin in Vietnam had been fired upon by North Vietnamese forces. This led to the Congress of the Gulf of Tonkin Resolution to be passed by congress which gave president Lindon B Johnson the power to make decisions he thought were necessary when it came to Vietnam. That event led to more military being sent to Indochina.
  • The Tet Offensive

    The Tet Offensive was one of the biggest military campaigns of the Vietnam war and it was organized by the PC and PAVN forces against the United States and Its allies. This played a huge roll in weakening the U.S forces and also support from back home. After this, the support of the public in America was significantly reduced.
  • Fall of Saigon

    Saigon was captured by North Vietnamese forces on April 30, 1975; the city was subsequently renamed Ho Chi Minh City. In response to the Fall of Saigon, Vietnamese troops, bureaucrats, and urban professionals, along with their families, were evacuated by the United States. Because of the fall of Saigon, the Vietnam War ended everyone involved and led to the reunification of the country under the communist government of North Vietnam.
  • Aftermath

    during the war, 405,000–627,000 civilians died, 282,000 American soldiers and allies died, and 444,000–666,000 PAVN and VC solders died. Vietnam became a communistic country and the north and south were reunited. the Vietnam war was the first war that America had lost which put a dent in military moral, and the war really hurt the U.S economy.
