Lyndon Johnson sworn in as President

Johnson wanted to create a "Great Society". But he failed to lead the nation out of the quagmire of the Vietnam War, and he insteade fought against North Vietnam by sending 500,000 men to Vietnam.

War protest in Washington 1967

Over 100,000 people gather at the Washington D.C. to protest the Vietnam war. About 50,000 marched to the Pentagon.

Tet offensive

Jan 31, 1968

70,000 North Vietnamese and Viet cong forces launched the Tet offensive. American forces and Vietnamese were able to hold off the communist attack.

My lai massacre

It is belived that as much as 500 people including men woman, elderly, and children were killed. High ranking officer tried to cover this up but soon was leaked to the public.

Nixon wins Presidency

After loosing the 1960 election to Kennedy most people belived his political stand point was over untill he recovered in the Republican party, and soon won the 1968 election.

Paris Peace Accords

The United States, South Vietnam, Viet Cong, and North Vietnam formally sign “An Agreement Ending the War and Restoring Peace in Vietnam” in Paris.

Saigon captured

Apr 30, 1975

By dawn, communist forces move into Saigon, where they meet only sporadic resistance. The South Vietnamese forces had collapsed under the rapid advancement of the North Vietnamese.
