The "Domino Effect"
Presidant Eisenhower gives the "Domino Effect" speech which says that we needed to protect Vietnam because likea domino, the surrounding countries would fall to Communisim, and we could not afford to lose them. "This will be the disintergration of Southern Asia."-Presidant Eisenhower -
Geneva Peace Accords
Looking at the strains of the Cold War and the Korean War, France and Vietnam signed the Geneva Accord in Geneva, Switzerland. The Accords stated that Vietnam must hold an election to see if the country would reunify the country and settle the issues in Korea. -

Diem's Death
South Vietnamese generals overthrew Diem Government and killed Diem and his brother the next day. This caused a mass panic throughout the Southern Veitnam and caused American troops to become more involved. -
U.S. Presidant's Assasination
A week after Diem's Assasination, the United States Presidant, John F. Kennedy, was shot. -
The Gulf of Tonkin
The Norht Vietnamese troops attacked two U.S. Destroyers. The U.S. originally blames the North for both attacks but became contreversial when widespread claims said that they could have 'possibly' done it. -
America attacks in Cambodia
The new American Prestidant, Richard Nixon, declares that the troops settled in Vietnam will attack the enemy locations in Cambodia. A majority of the attacks would be held on the colleges. -
Easter Offensive
Northern Vietnamese troops crossed the demilitarized zone and attacked South Vietnam. It was not meant to win the war, but to gain as much territory as possible and to destroy the Southern Vietnam army. -
U.S. P.O.W.s Released
Northern Vietnam released nearly 600 American Prisoners of War as a part of Operation Homecoming which was the result of diplomatic negotiations between the U.S. and Vietnam dealing with the U.S. military's involvement. -
Reunification Day
The day that the Northern Vietnamese troops captured Ho Chi Minh City and reunifiyed the two sectins of VIetnam.
