Battle of Tra Binh Dong
At dawn on February 15, the battle began with the Viet Cong attempting to cut through the wires of the South Korean base. Due to foggy weather, the supporting AC-47s could not engage the Viet Cong, so the South Koreans only had artillery support.Initially, the outnumbered South Koreans, though vastly superior in firepower, were pinned down, but the ranks of the Communist forces soon started to break up as the South Koreans counterattacked. Fought in the Tra Binh Dong province of South Vietnam. -
Operation Junction City
82 day military operation conducted by US and South Vietnam starting 2/22 and ending 5/14. It was the largest airborne operation since Operation Market Garden in WWII and the only major airborne operation of the Vietnam War. -
Operation Malheur I
Continued until June 8. Began with airmobile assaults aimed at the 2nd Vietcong Regiment in Base Area 124 -
Operation Malheur II
Began 6/8 and ended 8/2. Began with an air assault on Base Area 123 and on June 9 with an air assault on the area west of the Song Ve valley. -
Operation Buffalo
Started 7/2 and ended 7/14. Took place in the southern half of the DMZ, around Con Thien. Events that took place during Operation Buffalo include the Battle of July 2 and Operation Hong Kil Dong. -
Battle of Ong Thanh
The Battle of Ong Thanh was a battle of the Vietnam War that saw the soldiers of the 2nd Battalion, 28th Infantry (the "Black Lions"), ambushed and subsequently decimated by a well-entrenched and prepared National Front for the Liberation of South Vietnam (NLF), or Viet Cong, regiment outnumbering the Americans almost 10-to-1.
