Gulf of Tonkin Incident
On August 2, 1964 the U.S.S. Maddox encountered three Soviet-build North Vietnamese torpedo boats in the Gulf of Tonkin. It fired huge shots and were met by torpedo and a machine gun fire on top. On August 4, the U.S. destroyer Turner Joy and the U.S.S. Maddox reported that they have all been ambushed. -
