    Geneva Accords signed
    The Geneva confrence marked a turning point in the United States involvment with Vietnam. French agreed to withdraw their troops from North Vietnam. Vietnam was temporarilly split into the 17th parallel. During this time no foreighn troops were to be in Vietnam.
  • Gulf on Tonkin Resolution

    Gulf on Tonkin Resolution
    Gave the President authorization to use of militay force in southeast Asia without a delclation of war.LBJ sent in troops and air stikes began. Operation Rolling Thunder was the 1st bombing of North Vietnam.
  • Operation Rolling Thunder begins

    Operation Rolling Thunder begins
    First bombing done against North Vietnam. This bombing was to try to ease war against communist leader and to put tension on their military. This bombing resulted in a major expansion of the U.S. involvement in the war.
  • Tet offensive

    Tet offensive
    70,000 North Vietnamese troops attacked 100 South Vietnam cities. Their goal was to get U.S. out of Vietnam. These attacks marked a turning point in the war. U.S. succesfully defend agaisnt the attacks.
  • My Lai massacre

    My Lai massacre
    A group of American soilders butally killed the majority of the population of the South Vietnamese hamlet of My Lai. Around 500 people of all ages died from the massacre. One of the most horrific events during Vietnam.
  • Invasion on Cambodia

    Invasion on Cambodia
    Nixon announced this invasion to the public saying that the invasion was to disrupt the North Viernamese supply lines. They also invaded in order to bomb and destroy the Viet Cong base camps.
  • Fall of Saigon

    Fall of Saigon
    Saigon is the capital city of South Vietnam. North Vietnamese troops took over and effectively marked the end of the Vietnam War. American troops were taken out and sent home leaving the south without help agaisnt he North.
