Confrence in Geneva, Switzerland held from April 26 through June 20, 1954. The main goal of the confrence was to unify Vietnam, and restore peace to Indochina. Representatives from the United States, United Kingdom, France, Soviet Union, and People's Republic of China were present. -

Vietnam War
The Vietnam War conflict began with the fall of France on May 7th, 1954. The conflict was resolved during April of 1975 when United States troops were withdrawln from Vietnam. -
John F. Kennedy takes Office
Kennedy was the first president to face the Vietnam conflict. Kennedy's administration was the basis for the domino theory. The domino theory stated if Communism developed in Vietnam, sourrounding Southeast Asian countries would partake in a Communist government, making the Communism uncontainable. -
Lyndon B. Johnson takes office
Johnson took office after Kennedy's assasination. Johnson faced difficult decisions during the Vietnam conflict. Johnson took action by sending military troops to Vietnam, along with airstrikes. Johnson announced peace talks were being held in Paris, but the talks stalled during the last eight months of Johnson's presidency. -
Tonkin Resolution Passed
The Congress of the United States passed the Tonkin Resolution. The resolution gave Johnson power to take action against 'communist aggression". -
Operation Rolling Thunder
A series of Air Strikes planned by the United States lasting nearly three years against North VIetnam and communism. -

Lyndon B. Johnson sends US combat troops to Vietnam. The reason for sending the troops is so America can help Vietnam fight for independence. -
March on the Pentagon
Demonstrators marched outside of the Pentagon. The march was to oppose America's involvement in the Vietnam conflict. Riots broke out, and 20-30 demonstrators pushed through the doors to the pentagon. -

Largest military campaign of Vietnam. Consisted of suprise attacks against military and civilians. Composed of 3 phases. -
Students Protest @ National Democratic Convention in Chicago
Students gathered in Chicago to protest at the National Democratic Convention. Protesters were challenging the stance the United States had on the Vietnam conflict. The event pressured the Democrats, making it impossible to agree on the stance they should take in the conflict. -
Nixion Takes Office
Richard Nixion took was elected president and took office in 1969. He entered office as a Republican, promising to end the Vietnam War. -
Withdrawl of United States troops
The withdrawl of U.S troops lasted from 1969 to 1975. Withdrawl began during Nixion's presidency, but ended during Ford's. -
Beginning of Vietnamization
Vietnamization was a proposal by Nixion to end the United States involvement with the Vietnam War. Nixion delivered his 'Vietnamization" speech on November 3, 1969 -
National Gaurd troops kill students @ Kent State University
Nixon had promised to end the war, but announced the Cambodian Campaign on April 30. The students at Kent State University in Ohio were protesting when the Ohio National Gaurd fired 67 rounds in 13 seconds. -
26th Amendment passed
Lowered the voting age to 18 years. -
Cease Fire in Effect with North Vietnam
North Vietnam agreed to a cease-fire. All troops were to be withdrawln in 60 days. This was a significant end point in the conflict. -
War Powers Act
An act used to check the power of the executive branch in the United States government. Enabled inorder to give Congress the power to declare war. -
Ford Takes Office
Was promoted to president after Nixion's disgraceful resignation after the Watergate Scandle. Ford was left with rebuilding America post the Vietnam War. -
South Vietnam Surrenders
South Vietnam surrendered. Mostly due to the Soviet army's force, and withdrawl from the United States.
