  • Geneva Accords

    Geneva Accords
    On April 26, 1954, the Soviet Union, the United States, France, the United Kingdom, China and the Viet Minh came together to negotiate a settlement to end the conflict in indochina and unify Vietnam. This ultimately divided North and South Vietnam using the 17th parallel.
  • Vietnam War

    On November 1, 1955, the US landed its first boots-on-the-ground soldiers to fight. The ultimate goal of this war was to prevent communist domination of South-East Asia.
  • Gulf of Tonkin Incident

    Gulf of Tonkin Incident
    On August 2, 1964, the destroyer USS Maddox, while performing a signals intelligence patrol as part of DESOTO operations, was approached by three North Vietnamese Navy torpedo boats of the 135th Torpedo Squadron. This event caused the US to be a lot more involved in the Vietnam War because president Lyndon Johnson saw it as an attack against us.
  • Gulf of Tonkin Resolution

    Gulf of Tonkin Resolution
    On August 7th, 1964, congress passed the Tonkin Resolution which gave president Johnson to take matters which he believed were necessary to maintain peace in Vietnam. This was the after math from the Gulf of Tonkin incident which was a believed attack on the US.
  • Operation Rolling Thunder

    Operation Rolling Thunder
    On March 2nd, 1965, the US designed operation Rolling Thunder which dropped bombs all over Vietnam in retaliation to them attacking USS Maddox. These attacks lasted until the end of October 1968 due to president Johnson restricting these attacks on Vietnam.

    The Battle of La Drang
    On November 14th, 1965, the Americans landed at a spot call "landing zone X-ray" and faced attacks form North Vietnamese troops. The Battle lasted for four days losing around 230 and wounding 250.
  • Tet Offensive

    Tet Offensive
    In late January 1968, the North Vietnamese and communist Viet Cong launched coordinated attacks on both US and South Vietnamese forces. This ultimately weakened both sides and the United States public support for the war.
  • My Lai Massacre

    My Lai Massacre
    On March 16th, 1968, U.S. soldiers killed hundreds of unarmed Vietnamese civilians. This caused widespread outrage and furthered anti-war protest in the United States.
  • Paris Peace Accords

    Paris Peace Accords
    On January 1st, 1973, The agreements aimed to establish a ceasefire and end direct U.S. military involvement in the Vietnam War by withdrawing American troops from Vietnam while allowing for negotiations between North and South Vietnam to determine their futures.
  • Fall of Saigon

    Fall of Saigon
    On April 30th, 1975, North Vietnamese forces captured the capital of South Vietnam, leading to the collapse of the South Vietnamese government. This event marked the end of the Vietnam War and resulted in Vietnam being reunited under communist control.
