America starts to get involved politically.
America starts to back up to their original airms, which was "contain of communism" and make sure that the domino afffect will not reach asia. Since Ho Chi Minh wanted Communism to be part of Vietnam. They backed up France and gave France the control of Vietnam. -
French Handover- Parts of Vietnam were handed over to France after the WW2, because the Victorors of WW2 thought that Vietnam belonged to France, since it was theirs before the WW2. USSR asked Ho Chi Minh to negotiate with the French.

The Viet-Minh started using the Guerilla warfare tactics to wear down the French forces.
These tactics were largely hit and run attacks from the dense Jungle of Vietnam. These proved highly successful and by 1954 the Viet-Minh had control of most of the countryside. The French held control of the Cities. -
France takes full control of Vietnam and ousts the Viet-Minh.

China became a Communist state.
Communist Party Chairman Mao Zedong proclaimed the establishment of the People's Republic of China. In 1950, the People's Liberation Army succeeded in capturing Hainan from the ROC and occupying Tibet. -
USA started to give finacial aid to the French in Vietnam.
China had just fell to the Communist domino effect and became a Communist state. Therefore America started to give financial aid to the French in Vietnam. -
The French decide to create a modern fortress in the Northern Jungle area of Dien Bien Phu.
They used it to try and tempt the Viet-Minh into an Open Battle so that they could use their superior firepower and defeat the Viet-Minh. They even used aircraaft to drop leaflets inviting the Viet-Minh to come and attack them. The Viet-Ming won the battle. -
Peace Conference held in Geneva.
Vietnam was divided into North and South Vietnam until elections could be held to decide its future. Just like after the Korean War... They created a DMZ between the borders of North and South Vietnam and it was called the 17th parallel. -
2 years of free movement
One of the conditions were to ceasefire between France and Vietnam. The electionwould be held within 2 years on who would govern all of Vietnam. People were given 300 days to travel to their chosen region, North or South. -
North and South of Vietnam
Ho Chi Ming took control in the North and started to bring in Communist policies such as Land reforms which benefitted the Peasent Farmers. Ngo Dinh took overin the South and started to recieve a lot of money from the USA. He became the Prime minister in 1954 through increased Political can Financial backing from the USA. The USA feared that elections would show 80% of support for the Communists, so they faked the votes and said mojority of South vietnam was against reunification. -
North and South Vietnam was officially separated.
The South got Political and Financial support from the USA and the North got Political and Financial support from the USSR and China. USSR and China also gave arms. -
The state of South Vietnam was established.

US millitary involvement.
In 1961, South Vietnam signed a military and economic aid treaty with the USA leading to the arrival of US support troops and the formation in 1962. It was US military assistance command.
