    Viet Minh becomes Independent
    In 1945 Viet Minh offically declared its independence. It happened shortly after the axis powers fell. The Viet Minh was the Communist Northern Side of Vietnam. The South side was controled by the French.     The president of the United States of America, president Johnson signed the Tonkin Resolution. The Tonkin Resolution allowed President Johnson to be able to use military troops. The troops could only be sent to Southeast Asia which is basically Vietnam.

    After sending 500,000 soldiers and not achieving anything in the war, the United States decided to give up on the war. 15,058 soldiers were killed, and 109,527 soldiers were wounded with nothing really made in the Vietnam War. 25 billion dollars had been spent on the war with no positive results which made the military pull back 40,000 soldiers monthly.

    The North Vietnamesse and Viet Cong attack 100 cities in South Vietnam. The attack was went to capture the cities of the South weaken their armies, and get the U.S. to scale back troops.   • My Lai Massacre

    My Lai Massacre
    A mass murder of unarmed citizens and villagers in South Vietnam occured by US soilders. The killing was of Women, children and Men that day and 347 to 502 civilians were killed. Women were raped prior to their killing and children were given no mercy. Only three US sericemen tried to protect the wounded and were seen as Traitors and given hate mail till later on were awreward the Metal of Honor

    More than 2 million people came to the capital to protest the war which was the largest in America history. More than 250,000 people spoke at the activities in Washington all of which was anti-war.     On May 4th, 1970 students at Kent State University were protesting the war when things got out of hand. The Ohio National Guard fired shots into the crowd killing 4 students and wounding 9.     Vietnam Peace Agreement
    In 1973 the U.S. and Vietnam sign the Paris Peace Accords. In the treaty it stated all fighting will stop and all troops from the U.S. would be removed.   • South Vietnam is Attacked

    South Vietnam is Attacked
    The North Vietnamese launched a massive full-scale assault on South Vietnam. The South Vietnamese Army tried to ask Washington D.C. for help, but President Nixon assured to help, but resigned after the Watergate scandal. Gerald Ford, the new president, asked for funds to aid the South Vietnamese, but Congress refused.

    North Vietnam captured the city of Saigon, the capital of South Vietnam and it fell under communist Rule. 58,132 American soilders died in the VIetnam War and 3 million came home alive.
