  • Jan 1, 1428

    Independence from China

    The vietnamese declared independence from the Chinese. Le loi used guerilla warfare to drive Chinese out. Le loi became the leader of Vietnam
  • French invasion

    French invaded Vietnam to access the Asian trade and convert people the Catholic Church. The Vietnamese were taken over by force and granted the French control, created Indochina with control over Vietnam, Cambodia, and Laos.
  • Japanese occupation

    In WWII, the Japanese occupied Indochina.
  • French V. Vietnam

    The French and Vietnamese battled again. The U.S supported France because the U.S feared the communist party taking over.
  • French Surrender

    The French were battling the Vietnam and expected the help from the U.S. They never got the help, so the Vietnam forced the French to surrender on May 7.
  • Geneva

    An international conference settling Indochinas conflict begining in Geneva, Switzerland. French and Vietnam mapped out Indochina's future.
  • French Leaving

    The French leave Vietnam. The vietnam beomces unoccupied.
  • North Vietnam Helping South Vietnam

    North Vietnam send groups into south Vietnam to supply them with guns and soldiers.
  • Operation Chopper

    USA Launches Operation Chopper. Carrying many men in helicopters to a suspected North attack
  • Overthrow of Leaders

    A group led by General Dương Văn Minh to overthrow many leaders, Van and his brother were excecuted because of this

    Operation 'Rolling Thunder,' which are bombing raids to support South Vietnam
  • Asking for North Vietnam Surrender

    The U.S. offers North Vietnam economic aid in exchange for their surrender, but the offer is denied Two weeks later, We then send 60,000 more troops in.
  • Students protesting

    Student protest again the war in D.C. Thoursand protest
  • Tet Offensive

    Viet Cong forces attack U.S. troops with a wave of attacks supported by North Vietnamese troops. The Tet Offensive will be a failure for the North and the Viet Cong, which lose 37,000 fighters. But the United States, lose 2,500 men. Public support for the war in the U.S. plummets.
  • Vietnamization

    Training the South Vietnamese combat techniques so they won't need the United States help as much.
  • Kent State Shooting

    Kent State University had students protesting the war. The Ohio National guard kills 4 students as well as injuring 8 others.
  • Homefront

    Congress does not allow soldiers from Laos or Cambodia.
  • Pentagon Papers

    The New York Times leaks "the pentagon papers", doccuments showing what really happened in the war, and other things that the Gov. had lied about during the war.
  • Easter Offensive

    North Vietnamese cross the 17th parallel to attack South Vietnam in what became known as the Easter Offensive.
  • End of the Draft/Vietnam War

    The U.S announces the end of the military draft. Reps from South Vietnam, North Vietnam, and the United States sign a ceasefire agreement, the U.S. agrees to withdraw combat troops.
  • North Re-Invading

    North Vietnamese politburo orders offensive to ‘Liberate’ South Vietnam by NVA cross-boarder invasion.
  • End of the Vietnam Was

    North Vietnamese troops enter Saigon to destroy the gates of the Presidential Palace to accept the unconditional surrender of South Vietnam.The Vietnam War finally ends after 30 years of fighting
