The summit was held to find a way to a peaceful approach to the situation in Vietnam. The final place were that the French agree to cease fire to withdrawal troops, the country would be divided by the 17th Parallel, and free elections would be held. The United States would not recognize the election due to fear of a communist government forming. -

Gulf of Tokin
This incident was when Communist from Vietnam attacked an American ship called the USS Maddox, which was in the Gulf of Tonkin. This not only allowed the United States to act in Vietnam but also it gave the President any course of action as Congress passed a resolution in response to the attack. -
Tokin Resolution
This resolution was passed and drawn by the United States Congress in response to the Gulf of Tonkin incident. Congress gave the power and authority to the President to act and make any actions of any form regarding all of the events happening in Vietnam. This led to more American involvement in Vietnam and eventually American forces in the country. -

Also known as Operation Linebacker II, was a campaign started by Nixon against the Communist Vietnamese. This was in attempt to break the stalemate that was created during the war. Even though it didnt end the war, it forced the North to resume peace negotiations as they have previously stopped it before the bombings. -
Paris Peace Conference/Accords
This accords or summit officially started the fighting part of the war. Two versions of the treaty were made as the South never recognized the North as a legitimate government. This allowed a DMZ zone, the withdrawal of American asset in Vietnam and a country-wide ceasefire. This gave the government backing form the American people as they wanted the war to end. -
