This would lead the French to leave Vietnam with the Geneva Accords and the U.S. would become more involve by protected the newly created South Vietnam. -
The Geneva Accords cause Vietnam to be split into North and SOuth

Ngo Dinh Diem cancels elections in Vietnam.
He cancelled the election because he knew that the communists had too much support and that he would loose so he cancelled it so the communists couldn't take over. -
The United States withdraws support of Ngo Dinh Diem, leader of south vietnam.
After his support was lost by the United States he was assassinated during a coup d'état. -
The National Liberation Front is formed.
They where known was the Viet Cong and they were located in North Vietnam. -

President Kennedy is assassinated, leading to the presidency of Lyndon B. Johnson
On November 22,1963 resident Kennedy was riding in a motorcade as a campaign visit when at 12:30p.m. he was shot in the head where he would later die on the way to the hospital. Vice President Lyndon B. Johnson would later that day be swarn in as president aboard Air Force One. As during this time Vietnam was being held JFK was showing that he was going to pull us out of the war. President Johnson came in he did not pull out of the war but because of the Vietnamese attack on the USS Maddox. -
President Johnson Claims USS Maddox had been fired upon by the North Vietnamese
Also known as the Gulf of Tonkin Incident president Johnson claims that the USS Maddox was fired upon by North Vietnamese and the response to this event was that the U.S. became more engaged in the Vietnam War. -
The first combat troops arrive in Vietnam
It was in September 1950 when the US sent the Military Assistance Advisory Group to Vietnam to assist in the French Indochina war.
