  • Kennedy sends Military advisors over

    Kennedy agreed that America should increase the size of the south Vietnamese army from 150,000 to 170,00. He also agreed that an extra 1,000 extra military advisors should be set there to help train their army. Both these agreements were not made public.

    The Counter Culture

    Thousands of Americans showed concern through campus rallies, anti war demonstraitions, and concerts for peace. Many of the nation's youth were strongly opposed to the war taking place halfway across the world in which people close to them were dying.

    Draft Protests

    Draft resistors didn't report for induction when called or attempted to claim disability. Many soldiers went crazy and fled to Canada through underground railroad networks of anti war supporters.
  • Gulf of Tonkin Incident

    USS Maddox finds and engages three North Vietnamese torpedo boats. The Americans through a mix uo fired first and started it.
  • Summer of Love

    The Summer of Love was a social phenomenon that occurred during the summer of 1967, when as many as 100,000 people converged on the Haight-Ashbury neighborhood of San Francisco, initiating a major cultural and political shift.
  • Tet Offensive

    This was a military campaign launched by the forces of North Vietnam and their allies against South Vietnam, the US, and their allies. It was a series of suprise attacks when no attacks were supposed to take place
  • 1968 IN GENERAL

    This is a time that is commonly associated with unrest and the counterculture of the 1960's. There was much unrest and the US president said that he would not seek re-electon.

  • Woodstock

    The Woodstock Festival was a three-day concert (which rolled into a fourth day) that involved lots of sex, drugs, and rock 'n roll. Began a tradition among all hippies. This took place in New York
  • The Draft

    The selective service system of the US conducted two lotteries to determin the order of call to military service in the vietnam war. The lottery procedure was modified but the draft stayed.
  • Kent-State shooting

    The shooting of unarmed college students by the Ohio National Guard. The shooters fired 67 rounds over a period of 13 seconds. 4 students were killed and 9 others wounded.
  • Fall of Saigon

    This was the capture of Saigon, the South Vietnam capital. This marked the end of the Vietnam War.
