Ho Chi Minh was born this day. -
(French) Indo-China
in teh 1900's, the French took control of an area in Southeast Asia called Indo-China. They used this area for seaports and its rich source in natural resources and agricultural products. -

Ho Chi MInh worked towards independence from the French by organizing the Indo-Chinese Communist Party, but his followers were thrown in jail and he was forced to flee the country. During World War Two, he created the Vietminh League and they fought for nine years until the French surrendered in 1954. -

Ho Chi Minh founded the group the Vietminh League to drive the French out of Indo-China in 1945. This group led to the surrender of the French nine years later in 1954. -

The U.S tried to spread democracy throughout Vietnam, so they helped them. They also did not want French to rule. -

The United States met Ho Chi Minh but they thought he was going to spread communism throughout Vietnam. So they decided to split Vietnam in half and let Ho Chi control the north and the U.S controlled the south. Then Vietnam would vote on which government they wanted. -

They were against Communism and wanted Vietnam to be democratic. -

The Viet Cong were Vietnamese Communists that fought against South Vietnam and the U.S to have freedom. -
Nationalism
Nationalism in Vietnam led to the French surrendering in 1954 because of the Vietminh League. After much fighting when the U.S took control, the U.S fled from the country in 1975. -
The Republic of Vietnam
After the last U.S helicopter left in 1975, North Vietnam took over the country the next day and called The Republic of Vietnam. -
