This is was a staged attack! This second attack is allegedly the attack that started the Vietnam War. The U.S. was in coast of Vietnam already, they attacked themselves a second time to make it look like North Vietnam attacked the U.S. When this happened President Johnson ordered the troops to retaliate. -
Gulf of Tonkin Resolution
Gulf of Tonkin Resolution became effective. President Johnson declared this resolution was a way to deploy troops to South Vietnam to aid Southeast Asia Collective Defence Treaty. This was how the United States got into the Vietnam War. -
Buddhist Sets Himself on fire infront of big crowd
As a form of self-sacrifice and a way to demand that the Vietnamese government, lead by Head of State General Nguyen van Thieu, resgin. When the Buddhist monk was photographed lighting himself on fire, the picture got to the media and spread like wildfire and led to people of the U.S. Seeking peace and not supporting the war. -
Tet Offensive
General Vo Nguyen Giap led 70,000 soldiers to start the Tet Offensive and attack 100 small cities in South Vietnam. South Vietnam and the United States were able to recover from this attack and began to fight back. A few months later President Johnson called off the bombing, he was starting to listen to people and values peace over war. -
Anti-War Protest
During the Vietnam War, a great number of citizens of the states started to form anti-war protest, looking for peace and the end of violence in Vietnam. On November 15th, 1969, a large group of protestors gathered in Washington D.C. to peacefully against the war. Calling for the withdrawal of American troops. It was one of the biggest protest in American history. -
The End of the War
All parties involved with the Vietnam War signed a ceasefire agreement. Although the United States was the only one to uphold their end of the agreement this meant the United States was finally able to send their troops home and stop fighting the war.
