  • Operation Passage to Freedom

    Operation Passage to Freedom was a transportation of over 300,000 Vietnamese civilians and French soldiers that were not Vietnamese. The effort to get all these people to safety was by the United States Navy. These people were brought out of North Vietnam, a communist area, to South Vietnam, where there is a monarch.
  • Kennedy Takes Office

    John F. Kennedy played a bug role in the Vietnam War. To start, he sent more American military advisors to Vietnam. His vice president, Johnson, goes to South Vietnam to confirm American support for Ngo Dinh Diem, the president of South Vietnam.
  • Operation Pierce Arrow

    Operation Pierce Arrow was a bombing campaign started by the United States. This was a response to the attack on two U.S. destroyers that took minimal damage. The bombing raids targeted oil storage and boat bases.
  • Operation Flaming Dart

    Operation Flaming Dart was a response to the recent attacks on United States bases located in South Vietnam. President Johnson directed the U.S. military to attack North Vietnamese bases with air attacks. There was also bombs dropped on Vietnamese barracks in Chanh Hoa.
  • The Beginning Of The War

    In March of 1965, President Johnson announced a campaign against Vietnam that would last three years. It involved bombing runs against Vietnam. It also had U.S. troops entering Vietnam to fight on land.
  • SDS-Organized March Against the Vietnam War

    An anti-war protest held in Washington D.C. This was the largest anti-war protest ever in America. Over 15,000 people were in attendance.
  • Operation Crimp

    Operation Crimp was a U.S. and Australian cooperated attack on Vietcong headquarters. At that point in the war, it was the biggest military action done yet. This operation is also known as the Battle of Ho Bo Woods.
  • A Program for the Pacification and Long-Term Development of Vietnam

    Harold K. Johnson, the U.S. Army Chief of Staff, publishes a study on the Vietnam War. Its data says that the strategy being used by the American military is unproductive. It recommends to protect the population of South Vietnam.
  • Operation Deckhouse Five

    Operation Deckhouse Five was an effort by the United States Marine Corps. Throughout the ten days in the Mekong Delta, there was very little done. This operation is notable for the reason that U.S. and Vietnamese Marines worked together.
  • Operation Igloo White

    Operation Igloo White was used to discover where critical Vietnamese supplies was along the Ho Chi Minh Trail. Sensors dropped by American air crafts were used to find the supplies. Also, an orbiting satellite called the "Batcat" pick up the signals from the sensors and sent them to America.
  • Operation Duck Hook

    Operation Duck Hook was a backup plan if North Vietnam decided not to follow the Paris peace negotiation. This operation could have resulted in a nuclear bomb being dropped onto Vietnam. It ended up being abandoned by President Nixon.

    In the beginning of December of 1969, the draft for the Vietnam War started. America used a lottery system to choose who would go to Vietnam. Men born from January 1. 1944 to December 31, 1950 were in the lottery
  • Kent State Massacre

    The Kent State Massacre was a result of a peaceful protest held at Kent State. Four people were killed and nine other injured. The shooting was by the Ohio National Guard.
  • The End of the War

    On January 27th, 1973, the draft for soldiers came to an end. President Nixon signed the Paris peace negotiations. Vietnam agrees to a cease fire and ends the war with the U.S.
