U.S. Military Employs Agent Orange
The U.S. Air Force begins using Agent Orange code name for a herbicide and defoliant. An estimated 21,136,000 gallons were sprayed across South Vietnam which caused 400,000 deaths and disabilities, and 500,000 children born with birth defect. -
More troops to Vietnam
President Johnson has ordered an increase of U.S. forces in Vietnam, from the present 75,000 to 125,000. Johnson said he would order additional increases if necessary. -
Tet Offensive
This was one of the largest scaled surprise attacks made by the Vietcong and North Vietnamese against the South Vietnamese, U.S. and their allies. The U.S. and South Vietnamese sustained heavy losses. -
Gulf of Tonkin Incident

Nixon won the election and while he promised to provide new leadership in the Vietnam War. -
Vietnam War "Finished"
President Gerald Ford says the Vietnam War is finished as far as America is concerned in a speech at Tulane University. South Vietnamese asked for continued U.S. support as Saigon was being surrounded for the final assault.
