Ho chi Minh made the announcement of declaring its independence. He started his speech with the words from the Declaration of Indepence. -
First Indochina War
6,000 Vietnamese civilians were killed when French warships fired on the port city of Haiphong. This caused the war to start and last for 8 years. -
Warning to Vietnam
Eisenhower warned if Vietnam became communism the rest of the Southeast Asia would topple like a "row of dominoes." Even Japan would. This was announced in a new conference. -
Diem Became President
He declared himself president of South Vietnam. He began returning land to wealthy landlords and drafting young men from the countryside into his army. He attacked opponents and jailed thousand of people without putting a trail on them or charging them for a crime. -
National Liberation Front
Its a group that the Viet Minh formed and invited all opponents of Diem to join. Diem was the Viet Cong in the group, "Vietnamese communists."
