On-live
The first micro-console to be released was "On-live"a small black box that you plug into your platform. It allowed users to rent video games without installing them and allowed them to play games even if their platform couldn't handle it. This works because the On-live servers would download them and send, basically, a live stream of the game to the renter.
Their company has since been acquired and discontinued by Sony but you can still check them out I guess
