Professor A.S. Douglas created the first video game in 1952. It was called tic-tac-toe and it is one of the most famous games today. -
The Brown Box
Ralph Baer invented a prototype multiplayer video game system that could be played on a tv. It was called "The Brown Box". -
First Home Console
Up until now people have mostly been playing video games in arcades. Now with the release of the Odyssey people can play all their games in their house. Now people stop going to arcades since they have their very own gaming system. -
Nintendo saves the Gaming Industry
In 1989 Nintendo saved games by making a popular handheld device with the release of its 8-bit Game Boy video game device and the game Tetris. This act saved games from the crash of 1983. They did this by releasing incredibly good games such as Super Mario Bros and TheLegend of Zelda. -
Console Wars
By this time SEGA has released their Sonic the Hedgehog games. Nintendo has released their Mario games. Their battle is what would start the console wars. -
Sega's 32-bit console
In 1995 Sega released its Saturn system, the first 32-bit console that played games on CDs. They did this to beat Sony’s first foray into video games the Playstation. -
Better Gaming
The PS3, Xbox 360, and WII are released. These consoles have 3D graphics and some can even use DVD's. These would be the dominant gaming consoles for the next few years. -
Gaming awards
The Xbox 360 was chosen for its online gaming ecosystem and won more Game Critics Awards than the other platforms in 2007. It also featured the Microsoft Kinect, a state-of-the-art motion capture system that offered a different way to play video games. -
Real World Gameplay
In 2011, Skylanders brought video games into the real world. The game needed players to place toy figures onto a device, which reads the toys’ NFC tags to bring the characters into the game. This brought whole new ideas to the gaming industry. -
Sony releases the VR headset
VR is an accessory for the Playstation. It lets players feel like they are in the game because they are in the game. Virtual Reality makes a simulation of a world and puts the players in them to experience games up close and personal.
