  • "Brown Box"

    "Brown Box"
The first ever video game console that was invented by Ralph H. Baer. It was a bulky rectangular brown wooden box with two attached "controllers". It could be hooked up with any of the usual TV sets back in the day, and there were games on it such as ping-pong, tennis, handball, volleyball, chase games, and light-gun games. It was also a prototype at the time.
  • Magnavox Odyssey

    Magnavox Odyssey
The Magnavox Odyssey is the first official home video game console. The Brown Box led to licensing of technology by Magnavox. It was silent, and had very basic graphics. To today's standard, it was very, primitive.
  • Pac-Man

    Pac-Man
A very popular video-game, Pac-Man, was created in 1980 by Toru Iwatani. Iwantani wanted to make a game that was available for everyone, not just violent games that mainly attracted boys. It was one of the very first games in the "maze" genres and featured the first "power-up" and cut scenes. It sold world-wide from 1981 to 1987.
  • Mario and the Video Game Series

Mario and the Video Game Series
Mario was created by Shigeru Miyamoto and appeared in the one of the popular arcade games, Donkey Kong. Mario was originally known as "Jumpman". Donkey Kong is the only game that Mario is portrayed as the villain, or antagonist. Bowser, who is generally known as the main villain in the Super Mario Bros. series, did appear as a good guy in "Legend of the Seven Stars" in 1996.
  • Sonic the Hedgehog

    Sonic the Hedgehog
Originally, Sonic was made to be a bit hit to dominate Nintendo, who dominated the market in the early 90s with Mario. Sonic was created by Naoto Oshima, and he chose to use a hedgehog because it "trancends race and gender" and things like that. The developers wanted Sonic to be as universal as Mickey Mouse and something small children could draw. Fun fact, the developers game him red shoes to convey speed and was a tribute to Michael Jackson, who was a big fan video games.
  • The Sega Genesis

    The Sega Genesis
Sony made its entrance with the PlayStation, but Sega, at the same time, went on to develop into a series with the Genesis 2 and 3 because of the success of the original Genesis System. Fun fact, I still have this console, but unfortunately, it's in my storage unit. It had at least 80 games on there, including Sonic the Hedgehog and Streets of Rage, one of my favorite games.
  • Epic Mickey

    Epic Mickey
Epic Mickey is one of my favorite video games, even as a kid. It was designed by Warren Spector and developed by Junction Point Studios and was released on November 25, 2010. Mickey uses a magical paintbrush created by Yen Sid, the sorcerer from Fantasia. It features the first appearance of Oswald the Lucky Rabbit, who is portrayed as Mickey's brother in the series. It also shows Mickey's "gang" from Mickey House the Clubhouse, such as Donald Duck, Goofy, Minnie Mouse, and Daisy Duck.
