The ability to save a game was originally introduced in Nintendo's "Legend of Zelda". This would allow the gaming universe to infinitely expand by letting game creators make longer and more advanced games. -
Portable Gaming/Smartphones
Made popular by the Nintendo Gameboy portable gaming device became really popular. However now all of these games are made on smartphones and don't need a separate device. -
ESRB Ratings and Mature Games
Before ratings were created games were restricted in order to keep it out of the hands of the younger generation. Then ratings made it possible for industries to produce mature games without worry. -
Analog Sticks
Analog Sticks started when the Nintendo 64 was released. It gave players a 360 degree field of motion and allowed the change of speed without the press of a button. -
Touchscreen
The touchscreen was initially invented in the early 90's and first used effectively on the Game.com in 1997. It didn't become popular until 2004 with the release of Nintendo's DS. This was the beginning to a piece of technology that is now used virtually everywhere. -
Online Gaming for Consoles
Online gaming was around for decades, but was brought to the forefront with the release of the Xbox 360. It turned the gaming industries focus off of single player and onto multiplayer.
