    In 1994, Sony, after cutting ties with Nintendo, created their own console, called the Playstation. This was a generation-defining console, as it was the first console ever to use discs instead of cartridges, which could store way more space than before.

    In 1998, Sega released their final console, which would ultimately shift their focus from consoles to Video Games. But even though they did not continue in the gaming industry, the Dreamcast was technologically ahead of its time, including the feature of online play.
  • Microsoft enters the scene

    In 2001, Microsoft had seen the success of video games, and decided to jump in, as the latest big name in video games. They released the Xbox, which upped the ante on the gaming industry, which was one of the reasons Sega left the console industry. The Xbox also brings one of the more popular gaming franchises, Halo, into the scene.
