    Vasco becomes a Big time Sailor

    At this time period the French Distorted Portugese ships, so Da Gama was sent to fight back, He went to the Algarve region of Portugal and took control of many french ships this is what made him famous and a big-time sailor.

    Da Gama is sent to India

    The king of Portugal at the time (King Manuel) ordered Da Gama to find a sea route to India, something which hadn't been found yet and if it were found, it would go down in history (which it did).

    The disasters of the journey back

    The journey wasnt easy, as they were travelling by sea they knew it would take months, maybe years until they reach India, so they carried minimal supplies with minimal nutrition and minimal eaten per day so they dont run out and starve to death, but their bodies couldn't handle it, they needed nutrition especially Vitamin C, because most of the crew members got a disease called 'Scurvy' which comes with the lack of Vitamin C. This led to a lot of the crew dying and they had o burn down some 1/2

    In Order to refill on supplies and know if he is on the correct track, Obama had to stop first in Mozambique then in the Cape of Good Hope which was named after his journey

    Da Gama Reaches India

    In April 1498, Vasco Da Gama reached India, this was the first time that Europeans reached India via the sea so there was confusion, Da Gama and his crew thought that Indians were Christians, this led to not everybody liking them, but they were still welcome to stay by the king, Da Gama and his crew bartered, got what they needed and stayed there for 3 months/

    This led to some ships being completely abandoned and burnt down but even the ships that had enough crew to manage everything, things didn't go well, Da Gama left India in August 1498 but one of his ships reached India in July of 1499, with no communication from Da Gama and the crew on his ship they were lost, some thought they died but they still ended up bartering and safely reaching Portugal again

    Vasco Da Gama created both positive and negative impacts to the world, because of that, there are people who consider him a hero and there are people who call him a tyrant. Mainly, the Portuguese people were benefited from this as before the exploration Portugal was a poor country but Vasco Da Gama brought them a lot of spices and started the spice trade in Portugal. This then, had a good impact on Portugal’s economy and made them a powerful nation.

    One more advantage for Portugal was that they now had a direct route to Asia as before the exploration, they had to cross the ‘Mediterranean’ or ‘Arabia’ which was considered very dangerous at that point of time. The countries that were harmed were ‘India’ and ‘Africa’. As Vasco Da Gama traded spices with India for an ornament called ‘Trinkets’, India’s amount of spices had decreased.     therefore had less place for citizens to live. Africa was harmed for fighting with Da Gama and his sailors and in result, De Gama killed hundreds of ‘Muslims’ from Africa, because of that Africa lost part of their population which meant that they were not able to protect their trade routes.
