    The date is generally posted as 25 April 1846 until 2 February 1848. The Thornton affair matches that starting date, but Congress did not approve a declaration of war until 13 May 1846. The Treaty of Gudalupe Hidalgo was signed on 2 February 1848 but there were hostile incidents after that date which could be considered acts of war.
