Polk, provoke Mexicans into a war in which the U.S. barge into Mexican territory and slaughter millions of innocents, for the sole purpose of having America strectch from coast to coast. Antislavery people oppose war because they believe the new land acquired will become slave states. -
U.S. Mexico War Ends
The U.S. Mexico War ends with the Americans the victors. The battles were bloody and the casualties on the American side were nothing compared to the ones on the Mexican side, where many innocent people had been senselessly slaughtered. The U.S. paid Mexico $15 million to cover the losses, and to feel generous. -
Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo
The treaty signed between Mexico and America agreed that Mexico would relinquish all of New Mexico, California, Arizona, Nevada, Utah, parts of some other surrounding states-to-be, and the long-disputed-over Texas, in return for $15 million from America. -

New Mexico and Arizona, some of the last states out of the once Mexican territory won in the war, are oficially added as states.
