This act told what type f people could not become US citizens. “Those classes included idiots, insane persons, and paupers. Any person who could become a public charge on society was also not allowed to enter. The immigrants who came to the United States carrying a contagious disease were also not permitted entry. Ellis Island Opens for Business
Ellis Island, New York opens up a new Federal US immigration station. This is where millions of immigrants were inspected to become citizens or be denied citizenship. -
Us Immigraton Act of 1903
This law changed the 1891 Immigration act by adding anarchists, epileptics, beggars, and prostitutes to the denial lists. It also did some changes to some land dispute issues. -
The Us Immigration Act of 1907
This law reorganized the immigration law of the border states of Mexico (Arizona, New Mexico and Texas) to help decrease the flow of immigrants into the US. -

Japanese relocated to internment camps
President Roosevelt signed Executive Order 9066 allowing the military to relocate the Japanese from the Pacific Coast into internment camps. These people included all peoples of Japanese ancestry whether citizens or not. -
The Internal Security Act of 1950
This law changed the Alien Registration Receipt Card into the modern “Green Card” we have today. This is a more accurate and valuable version of the previous. -
Operation Wetback
This operation was enacted by President Dwight D Eisenhower to round up all of the illegal immigrants from Southwest United States. This caused controversy because of the suspected harassment and beating of the immigrants. -

The new department of USCIS is formed under the department of homeland security. Their duties include handling US immigration services and benefits which include: citizenship, permanent resident applications, asylum and refugee services, and non-immigrant applications. -
SB1070 is passed in Arizona
When SB1070 was passed many immigrants were upset, as well as many people of different nationalities. This law creates frustration because it allows cops to ask anyone (who has reasonable suspicion of being illegal) to verify their citizenship documents, which some believe is profiling.
