Lost Colony
Sir Wlater Raleigh sponsered the colony of Roanoke off the Coast of North Carolina. Settlers vanished in 1590. -
Jamestown
The Captain John Smith and 3 ships made the settlement of Jamestown of the coast of Virginia. This was the first permanent English settlement in the Americas. -
House of Burgers
This was the first representative assembly in the New World. In Jamestown Virginia. -
Slaves
The first black slaves were brought to the North American English settlements. They were brought by the Dutch to Jamestown on August. -
Pilgrims
They were Puritan seperatist. They left for Religious freedom. They landed at Plymouth on December 26 1620. -
Providence, Rhode Island
Roger Williams founded Providence in Rhode Island in June. It was to be democraticaly ruled. -
Navigation Act
The British Parliment passed the Navigation Act, it regulated the colonial commerce to help the English needs. -
Indian War
In New England King Phillip the Wampanoag chief and other Indians were killed by colonist. -
Bacon's Rebellion
Nathaniel Bacon led planters against British government. Sir William Bekeley burned Jamestown. The rebellion ended when Bacon died, 23 oh his followers were killed. -
German Immigrants
The first German colonist in the English colonies settle near the town of Philladelphia. -
Treaty with Native Americans
William Penn, the foudner of Pennsylvania signed a treaty with the Delaware Indians and made payments for the Pennsylvania land. -
Salem Witch Trials
In the town of Salem in Massachusets many of the colonist had a fear of witchcraft. 20 people who were accused of being slaves were killed by a special court. -
Poor Richard's Almannack
Benjamin Franklin published the first issue of the Poor Richar's Almannack. It was published annualy until 1757. -
Zenger Trial
An editor by the name of John Peter Zenger was arrested in the city of New York for slandering the British governor. -
The Great Awakening
The sermon"Sinners in the Hands of Angry God" was delivered in Enfield Massachusetts on July 8th of 1741. Johnathan Edwards was the man who delivered the sermon he was a key figure in the Great Awakening. -
The French and Indian War
The French adn Indian war began when the Frech occupied a fort in Pittsburgh. The war raged on for years and finnaly ended with a peace pact in 1763, the Frech lost Canada and The Midwest of current day America. Britain became a world power after this war. -
The Sugar Act
The British parliment passed a tax on the colonies for wood, food, and sugar. They did this so that they could pay off the war debts from the French and Indian war. -
The Stamp Act
The British Parliment made the colonies use stamps on all paper to pay for funds for the royal troops. -
The Quartering Act
This act required the colonist to let the royal soldiers stay in their houses. They also had to feed them. -
The Townshend Acts
These acts levied the taxes placed on glass, painter materials, paper, and tea. In the year of 1770 all of the taxes were lifted except for the one on tea. -
The Boston Massacre
British troops fired into a mob in the city of Boston. They killed 5 people including Crispus Attucks who was supposedly leading the mob. -
The Boston Tea Party
The East India Compay ships are turned around at Boston and Philladelphia. Cargo ships were burnt at Annapolis on October 14. More cargo was thrown overboard on December 16 to protest the tax that was placed on tea. -
Rhode Island and Slavery
In the year of 1774 the colony of Rhode Island abolished slavery whithin its territories. -
The First Continental Congress
The First Continental Congress was held in Philladelphia on September the 5th through October the 26th. The delegates called for civil disobedience,a form of protest, against the British. -
The "Intolerable Acts"
The Intolerable acts stopped the self-rule of Massachusetts and stopped the use of Boston Harbor until the the colonist payed for the tea that was dumped at the Boston Tea Party. -
Patrick Henry
At a Virginia convention patrick Henry said the great quote "give me liberty or give me death." -
"The British are Coming"
Paul Revere and William Dawes rode through the night yellng the British are coming to alert the patriots that the British wre on their way to destroy the colonist weapons in Concord. -
Lexington
At the town of Lexington in Massachusets the Minutemen fought the British, the minutemen lost 8 men while the British lost 273. This marked the beggining of the American Revolution. -
Fort Ticonderoga
Collonel's Ethan Allen and Benedict Arnold captured Ft. Ticonderoga in New York. THey also headed for Bunker Hill and fortified Breeds Hill, and Charlestown. They also defeated the british twice before retreating on June 17th. -
Commander in Chief
The Contnental Congress named general George Washington commander in chief of the army. He established the postal system on July 26th and Benjamin Franklin became the first postmaster general. -
Common Sense
The pro-independance pamphlet was published by writer Thomas Paine. It sold more than 100,000 copies. -
The Defeat of Cornwallis
General of the army,George Washington defeated Lord Cornwallis at Princeton. -
The Stars and Stripes
The Continental Congress authorized the flag of the United Sates on America. It was the stars to represent the states and the stripes were the 13 original colonies. -
The Articles of Confederation
The Articles of Confederation was adopted by the Continental Congress. It was the first form of government for the United States, it had many flaws though. -
American Independance-The Treaty of Paris
Britain and the U.S signed the Treaty of Paris, it officialy recognized American independance. It was ratified on the 14th of January 1784. After this George Washington disbanded the U.S army. -
Shay's Rebellion
Shay's Rebeliion was started and failed in Massachusetts. -
The Constitutional Convention
The Constituional Convention was opened in Philladelphia. Washington was presiding, The constituion was accepted by the delegates and on September 17 Delaware was the first state to ratify the constitution. On December 7 Pennsylvania and New Jersey were next. -
Northwest Ordinance
The Northwest Ordinance was adopted by the Continental Congress for the Northwest Territory. It made the rules for statehood and set the pattern for orderly growth in the U.S,it guranteed freedom of religion,support for the schools,and no slavery. -
The First President
The first presidential election was held in the United States, George Washington was elected president. John Adams became the vice-president. He was inagurated on the 4 th of March, thats my birthday. -
The creation of Departments and the Supreme Court
The U.S state department was founded by Congress on July 27. Thomas jefferson was the first secretary of state. The War department was created August 7. Henry Knox was the secretary. The Treasury Department was created on September 2 and Alexander Hamilton was the secretary. The Supreme Court was created and John Jay was the first Chief Justice. -

The first bank of the United States was chartered. -
The Bill of Rights
The Bill of Rights was submitted to the states on September 25 1789 and was put into effect on the 15th of December 1791. -
Washingtons Second Term
George Washington was inagurated for a second term and John Adams was the vice president once again. -
The Cotton Gin
Eli Whitney invented the cotton gin, this helped the Southern economy and increased the production of cotton. -
The Whiskey Rebellion
Western Pennsylvania farmers protested the tax on liquor of 1791, the militia stopped them in September. -
Washington's Farewell Address
His farewell address was delivered on September 17th. He warned against the creation of permanent alliances, military establishment,and politicla parties. -
Alien and Sedition Acts
This act was passed by Federalist June-July it was meant to silence the opposition of other political parties. -

John Marshall was named the Supreme court Chief Justice -
Election of 1800
Thomas Jefferson was named the president after he and Burr tied in the number of electoral votes. Jefferson beat Burr in the House of Representatives. Burr was to become the vice president. -
Marbury vs. Madison
The supreme court overturned a U.S law and made the judicial review. -
Lousiana Purchase
Napolean sold all of the Lousiana territory to the U.S it doubled the size of the U.S. -
Lewis and Clark Expedition
The expedition was ordered by the president of the U.S, Thomas Jefferson. It was meant to explore the new lands gained from the Lousiana Purchase -
Burr vs. Hamilton
Vice president Aaron Burr shot Alexander Hamilton in a duel. He blamed Hamilton for his losing the election. -
The Steam Boat
The inventor Robert Fulton made the first real steamboat. He made his first trip from New York to Ablany. It was a 150 mile trio in 32 hours. -
The Embargo Act
The Embargo act banned trade with all foreign countries. -
The War of 1812
The War of 1812 was caused by 3 things. The first was that Britain was seizing AMerican ships, and allying with Native Americans. And the capture of U.S sailors. -
Oliver H. Perry
He defeated British fleet at Battle of lake Erie. He also led the U.S to a victory at the Battle Of Thames on October 5th, he burned York and Buffalo. He was awar hero during the War of 1812. -
The Attack on The Capitol
The British landed in Maryland in August and they defeated the American forces August 24. They burned the Capitol adn the White House, the Maryland militia stopped the invasion on Sepetember 12. -
"The Star Spangled Banner"
The Americans whitstood the bombardment of British troops at Fort McHenry in Baltimore for 25 hours. This seige inspired the Star Spangled Banner. -

The Treaty of Ghent was signed on December the 24th to end the war with Britain. -

Spain ceded the Florida teritoy to the U.S, after this Spain had almost no land in North America. -

The Monroe Doctrine was said by President James Monroe, it stopped all European interferance in North and South America. -
Webster-Haynes Debates
The famous debate between the Massachusets Senator Daniel Webster and the South Carolina Senator Robert Hayne was had on the issue of state right to nullify federal law. -
The Indian Removal Act
President Andrew Jackson signed the Act that removed all Native Americans off of their landand to Indian reservations. Native American descendants today still do not use 20 dollar bills for the path they took was so harsh it became known as the trail of tears. -
Nat Turner Rebellion
A black slave in Virginia led a revolt starting on Aug 21; they killed 57 whites. Troops were called and they killed 100 slaves Naat Turner was captured and he was hanged. -
"The Trail of Tears"
The Cherokee Indians were forced to walk the trail of tears from Georgia to Oklahoma. -

The Mexican war started after President James K. Polk ordered Zachary Taylor to take disputed Texas lands.The U.S declared war on May 13th and Mexico declared War on May 23rd. -

A convention in New York for Womens RIghts. The leaders of it was Elizabeth Cady Stanton, and Lucretia Mott. -
The California Gold Rush
Gold was dicovered in California and many people flocked there in search of riches, many people did not find gold. The 49'ers are named after this gold rush. -
The Compromise of 1850
This compromise said that California would be a free sate but Congress would not pass any laws about slavery in the new territories and that the population of the territory could vote on the issue of slavery. The Compromise also made harsher laws towards run away slaves. There was a court that the slaves were brought to,if the slaves were returned to the south they court got 10 dollars if they wre not the court got 5 dollars. IT was supported in the South not in the North. -
Uncle Tom's Cabin
Harriett Beecher Stowe writes the novel "Uncle Tom's Cabin", it depicted the harsness of slavery in the Suth. The Southerners were outraged with the way it was depicted but the North said that that was the way that is was. -
The Attack at Harper's Ferry
The abolitionist John Brown led slaves in an attack on the U.S arsenal at Harper's Ferry, he wanted to inspire slaves to fight for their freedom. -
The Civil War
The American civil war began when the Southern states seceded. They believed that Abraham Lincoln wanted to end slavery in the South. The South said that they seceded for states rights. -
The Emancipation Proclomation
Abraham Lincoln declared slavery illegal in the United States. -
The Surrender of Lee
At Appatomax court House General of the Confederate army Robert E. Lee surrendered to the General of the Union army, Ulysses S. Grant. A month later the civil war officialy ended. -
Lincoln Is Assassinated
Lincoln was assassinated while at a play shortly after the end of the civil war. The murder was by the hand of John Wylkes Booth.
