n 1809, British inventor Sir Humphry Davy created the first electric light by connecting two wires to a battery and attaching a charcoal strip between the other ends. The charged carbon glowed to create the first arc lamp. In 1878, Thomas Edison's team created a light bulb with a carbonized cotton thread filament that could last 14.5 hours. They later experimented with a bamboo filament that could last up to 1,200 hours, which became the standard for Edison bulbs for a decade.
