  • French and Indian War Begins (1754)

French and Indian War Begins (1754)
The British and the French had begun fighting over land and expanding their colonies. Both wanted international dominance in “the New World” and to come off as the most powerful. France was more interested in what the land had, like furs and other goods, while Britain was trying to establish civilization. The Ohio River Valley is an example of what both were fighting to obtain and control.
  • Treaty of Paris(1763)

    Treaty of Paris(1763)
This treaty concluded the French and Indian War. On France’s side, they lost all land on the east of the Mississippi River, (besides a few areas). Britain grasped hold of all this land, while all France got was a couple islands.
  • Virginia Resolves (1765)

    Virginia Resolves (1765)
In response to the Stamp Acts being put in place, the Virginia Resolves were crafted and shown by George Washington. The Virginia House of Burgesses passed these ideas after Patrick Henry’s famous speech: “Give me liberty of give me death.”
  • Stamp Act Repealed (1766)

    Stamp Act Repealed (1766)
After all the trouble the British went through to impose taxes on stamps, they ended up repealing the whole act. The colonists were protesting far too greatly for the soldiers to handle and seemed dangerous. Not only that, but, the Virginia Resolves were being presented.
  • Townshend Acts (1767)

    Townshend Acts (1767)
These acts made anything imported to the colonies taxed by the British. As colonists, they felt they had no representation and thought these acts were just Britain abusing their power over them.
  • Boston Tea Party (1773)

    Boston Tea Party (1773)
The Boston Tea Party was a protest by the colonists about the taxes Britain was imposing because of their debt. The tea, which was from Britain, was dumped into the river. Around 342 chests were thrown into the water. Led by the Sons of Liberty, the protest was carried out in Native American garments and lasted for hours.
